Privacy Statment

This statement relates to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food's privacy practices in connection with its websites. The Department is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of any other websites.

Collection and Use of Personal Information

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food respects the rights of its users and, apart from the registration of its customers, does not, as a general rule, collect personal information of any kind on it's websites.

Any personal information that you volunteer to the Department (for example by registering for electronic services provided by the Department) will be treated with the highest standards of security and confidentiality, strictly in accordance with the Data Protection Act, 1988, as amended by the Data Protection (Amendment) Act, 2003. Any information that you provide in this way is not made available to any third parties, and is used by the Department only in line with the purpose for which you provided it. However, where you provide personal information in order to register for access to electronic services provided by the Department, such information may be transferred to the Reach agency to enable your registration for access to all electronic Government services that will be made available when the public services broker is implemented. Collection and Use of Technical Data

Technical details in connection with visits to the Department's websites are logged for statistical and other administrative purposes. No information is collected that could be used by the Department to identify website visitors. The details logged are confined to the following items:

  • The IP address of the visitor's web client
  • The top-level domain name used (for example .ie, .com, .org, .net)
  • The previous website address from which the visitor reached us, including any search terms used
  • Clickstream data which shows the traffic of visitors around this website (for example pages accessed and documents downloaded)
  • The type of web browser used by the website visitor.

The Department will make no attempt to identify individual visitors, or to associate the technical details listed above with any individual except in the investigation of any inappropriate or malicious use of the Department's website itself.

The websites do not use cookies to track personally identifiable information that you submit to the sites. However, the Department uses 'session' cookies to track customer's progress through the sites, contributing to the maintenance of the security and integrity of the data being used.

It is the policy of the Department never to disclose any technical information in respect of individual website visitors to any third party, unless legally obliged to make such disclosure. The technical information will be used only for statistical and other administrative purposes.
