Fishing Opportunities for 2022 for EU fish stocks

The EU-UK consultations on fishing opportunities for 2022 will begin this month.

As the majority of stocks of interest to Ireland are shared with the UK, these stocks are listed as pro memoria (pm) in the Commission’s TAC & Quota Proposal published on 4 November 2021, pending the outcome of the consultations.

Each year, a Sea Fisheries Sustainability Impact Assessment, based on consultation with all major stakeholders, is brought before the Dáil. In order to allow the Sustainability Impact Assessment to go ahead, the SIA will follow the same procedure as last year and use the ICES scientific advice as the basis for this year’s SIA.  As the ICES advice informs the EU’s negotiating position with the UK for TACs and Quotas, it will provide reasonable guidance for the assessment and will facilitate consultation with stakeholders.

The full EU proposal along with a table listing the ICES recommended advice for stocks for 2022, where data is available, and the TAC and Ireland’s quota for 2021 are available here

Stakeholders are asked to comment on the scientific advice for the stocks and the Commission proposal for fishing opportunities for 2022 – COM (2021) 661 final. The closing date for this call for submissions is close of business 23 November 2021.

All submissions received, subject to legal and editorial considerations, will be published on this website.
